Natural wine importer (Super)Natural has just opened the newest destination for wine in Makati, as well as the very first in the creative heart of Chino Roces dedicated purely to bottles produced naturally, organically, and biodynamically.
Now on soft opening in the up-and-coming YMC Building, the natural wine purveyor’s first permanent space—simply named (Super)Natural—combines the experience of a curated bottle shop with an intimate wine tasting lounge. Decked out in warm tones and lush textures, it places the spotlight on outta-this-world natural wines from around the world.
“We’ve done pop-ups and events before,” says (Super)Natural co-founder Kai Yulo, “but we’re incredibly excited to finally have our own permanent space where we can make exceptional natural wines accessible, approachable, and worth gathering around.”
A new natural wine experience in Chino Roces
Beyond simply being a place to shop bottles curated from its extensive portfolio, (Super)Natural is committed to being a space where the curious can find new and creative ways to discover and understand natural wines—that is, organic wines made with little to nothing added and nothing taken away.
“Natural wine is a completely different experience from your usual conventional wine,” explains Kai. “These are wines in their purest form. The grapes are handpicked in small batches, and the winemakers allow them to do their own thing in the cellar, so each bottle has its own unique character. It can be juicy and chuggable, wild and adventurous, or elegant and sophisticated—but it will always have its own personality.”
At its wine lounge and bottle shop, (Super)Natural lets you taste the difference yourself by the bottle and by the glass—and the latter will have a regularly-changing selection.
“We currently have over 400 different wines from around the world, and we want to give people the opportunity to taste them and discover their next favorite,” explains Michael Beltran, (Super)Natural Operations Head. “We’ll be rotating our by-the-glass selections regularly—even as often as weekly—so that there’s always something new to try here.”
(Super)Natural’s wine list features a selection of sparkling, white, red, rosé, and orange wines ranging everywhere from easy and approachable to funky and adventurous. You’ll find bottles by natural wine legends like Jean-Francois Ganevat, Gut Oggau, Le Coste, and Domaine Matassa, as well as rising stars like Greek-Australian winery Aristotelis ke Anthoula and even the rebellious Milan Nestarec from the Czech Republic.
Those unsure of where to begin are in good hands, with certified wine professionals on the team ready to share more about natural wine and give recommendations based on your tastes and preferences, as well as what you’ll be eating—the latter of which is entirely up to you.
“The possibilities are endless because you can bring your own food to enjoy with whatever wine you’re ordering,” says Michael. “Whether it’s pizza, sushi, or even street food from the carinderia right outside, you can leave it to us to help you find the perfect wine pairing for it.”
For those undecided on what to eat, however, (Super)Natural will also be serving daily specials by partner and YMC Building neighbor Sunday Street Co.
New ways to discover natural wine
Since its inception, (Super)Natural has worked to introduce natural wine to a Filipino audience in fun, creative, and approachable ways—and its new wine lounge is no exception, also doubling as a space for regular events and private gatherings for its growing community of natural wine lovers.
“In our new space, we have a tasting table perfect for our usual masterclasses and guided tastings for anyone eager to learn,” explains Michael. “But we also want to present wine beyond the more formal contexts people may associate with it. We have plans for pairing it with fast food and Filipino street food, events with painting and pottery collectives, and more—because natural wine is something you can enjoy without the formality. And we’re happy to collaborate with anyone happy to get funky with us.”
The (Super)Natural wine lounge will also be available as a space for private events.
(Super)Natural is located at 2/F YMC Building, 2320 Chino Roces Avenue Ext., Makati and is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM; Fridays-Saturdays from 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM.
