In this day and age, being “soft” is something to be embraced—which is why this red by beloved Auvergne winemaker Patrick Bouju is literally named for it. This velvety blend features five proudly French red grapes and white Muscat, slowly taking you on a smooth journey from cocoa on the nose to velvety black fruit on the palate, a medium body, and a vibrant acidity. Best savored decanted, lightly chilled, under the sun!

No natural winemaker embodies “untamed” the way Auvergne’s Patrick Bouju does. Once a sulphur-intolerant chemistry student and now a regional icon, his 9 hectares of ancient, low-yield, chemical-free vines are still managed largely by hand and no small amount of elbow grease. Only a few bottles, mostly precisely-made blends, make it out of his winery every year—but each is as wild and free as their maker!

Behind the Bottle
Nestled in the basaltic soils of extinct volcanos, Patrick and Justine Bouju’s Auvergne plots are home to vines as old as 120 years old—mostly of native, low-yield varieties like Gamay andLimberger, supplemented by grapes they buy from regions like Alsace and Beaujolais. The land is worked almost entirely by hand, with each plot vinified separately. Long extraction times, no sulfur, pure expression, experimental spirit: these are distinctively Boujou!
