Old vines of ancient Catalan grapes are grown organically and biodynamically on a single mountain in Spain’s Conca de Barberà. Winemaker Joan Franquet strives to preserve the authentic taste of his varietals and his terroir by using ancestral methods on his obscure native grapes.

Behind the Bottle
Joan uses spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts and low intervention principles in the cellar. Aging of obscure, ancient, native grape varieties like Sumoll Negra, Trepat, Macabeo, and Xarel-lo occur in stainless steel, french oak barrels, and notably, clay amphora.
With 60 to 110 year old vines, altitudes of 400 to 800 meters, and clay, slate, and limestone soils, Franquet now crafts genuine, authentic natural wines that are unique expressions of their terroir.
