About 90% of the wines that come out of Crozes-Hermitage are made of Syrah—that said, the 10% of the region’s signature white blend are something special indeed. Lifelong friends Dard & Ribo put its freshness front and center, taking 30-year-old Roussanne and Marsanne and aging them in old barrels. It’s vibrant and somewhat bold, with lots of tree fruit and delicate florals, as well as a long saline finish: a bottle you can expect to age fantastically!

Dard & Ribo
Born and raised in towns facing each other across the Rhone River, René-Jean Dard and François Ribo met studying oenology in Beaune and together started their own estate in 1984. They started with one hectare of vines, and today have nine with biodynamic plots in the Saint Joseph, Crozes Hermitage, and Hermitage appellations. As it has been for decades, each vintage is an ode to terroir.

Behind the Bottle
The Dard & Ribo estate is worked biodynamically over the three prestigious appellations of Saint Joseph, Hermitage, and Crozes Hermitage over granite and kaolin. Their winemaking methods have remained largely the same for 35 years: there is no sulphur and no filtration, and the bare minimum of 10% of the grapes are trodden just to obtain the juice to jumpstart fermentation.
