Named for its release on the market the spring after harvest, Dard & Ribo’s interpretation of Crozes-Hermitage is one that embraces freshness. Whole bunches are mostly destemmed, with a short maceration of 20 days before aging in barrels for 12 months—and when they come out, a fresh nose full of cherries and cocoa leaping out of the characteristic inkiness. Surprisingly fruity for French Syrah, without losing its roundness, medium tannins, and spicy notes.

Dard & Ribo
Born and raised in towns facing each other across the Rhone River, René-Jean Dard and François Ribo met studying oenology in Beaune and together started their own estate in 1984. They started with one hectare of vines, and today have nine with biodynamic plots in the Saint Joseph, Crozes Hermitage, and Hermitage appellations. As it has been for decades, each vintage is an ode to terroir.

Behind the Bottle
The Dard & Ribo estate is worked biodynamically over the three prestigious appellations of Saint Joseph, Hermitage, and Crozes Hermitage over granite and kaolin. Their winemaking methods have remained largely the same for 35 years: there is no sulphur and no filtration, and the bare minimum of 10% of the grapes are trodden just to obtain the juice to jumpstart fermentation.
