Jean-Claude Lapalu
Currently one of the finest vignerons in Beaujolais, Jean-Claude Lapalu and his family started off as growers, selling grapes to various cooperatives in the region. Today, his minimal intervention winemaking style uses as little sulfites as possible. The result: highly nuanced, concentrated red wines that are beautiful expressions of terroir.

Behind the Bottle
Today, the fine granite soils of the region house around 12 hectares of old Gamay vines for Jean-Claude Lapalu's estate, with most around 60 to 80 years old. Organically certified since 2010, today’s thriving natural wine scene in the region owes a lot to Lapalu’s mentorship with many younger Beaujolais winemakers spending time as his cellar hands. His Vin de France wines that fall outside of the Beaujolais regulations are just as gorgeous as his excellent, renowned Beaujolais Crus.
