In his notes, winemaker Ismael Gozalo writes, “Consume always in good company and drink without moderation.” You don’t need to tell us twice with this pet nat rosé made from 100% Rufete from the Sierra de Francia—the first from the harvest, fermented for two weeks in stainless steel. Bubbly, fruity, and lightly sweet, it’s a hit on its own and with food, but with a nice medium body, plus a fruitiness and spiciness, that keeps the chismis coming at brunch or dinner.

Behind the Bottle
Located in the village of Nieva, Castilla y Léon, Spain, his ancient vines of mostly Verdejo are housed on sandy soils about 800 meters above sea level. Known as the ‘Wizard of Verdejo’ he produces a dizzying array of wines from his family’s vines that they have tended to for 5 generations.
Constantly experimenting with aging, skin contact, and various types of spontaneous fermentation, he now produces 12-15 different expressions of Verdejo — he is a true master of his craft.
